Avant-garde watchmaker TAG Heuer and electric carmaker Tesla Motors have teamed up in a worldwide partnership as the iconic Swiss brand celebrates its 150th anniversary.
As part of its 150th anniversary, TAG Heuer continues to celebrate its motor-racing heritage in a prestigious round-the-world tour with partner Tesla Motors. Through the Odyssey of Pioneers, the two avant-garde brands will share their values of innovation, performance, precision and energy-efficient luxury.
From March through October 2010, TAG Heuer's revolutionary and sustainable conscious "Odyssey of Pioneers" exhibition and roadshow, will visit 15 key cities, including Basel, Moscow, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Paris, with inaugural VIP events at each stop. Professional drivers and celebrities will drive the one-of-a-kind TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster on its 37,000 km journey around the world.
The Roadster, a fully electric sports car, has been specially designed by Tesla Motors for TAG Heuer. The zero-emission GT car includes a unique interior which incorporates TAG Heuer avant-garde design elements and a console containing the latest 2010 concept watch, the TAG Heuer Pendulum. This car also features a TAG Heuer Meridiist mobile phone as well as a one-fifth second Heuer Limited Edition Stopwatch.
TAG Heuer’s advanced watchmaking technology and proud motor-racing heritage will be exhibited in the form of historically important timepieces from the last 150 years. Luxury timepieces from current collections and avant-garde concept watches will also be displayed.

For more than 150 years the company has combined innovation and enduring style to conquer and master the measurement of time in its smallest fractions. Founded by Edouard Heuer in 1860, in the Swiss Jura Mountains, TAG Heuer has become the world’s top manufacturer of prestigious chronographs with a precision of 1/10th, 1/100th and 1/1,000th of a second, and a benchmark for technology and design.
Throughout its existence, the brand has written some of the most important chapters in the history of Swiss watchmaking and the 15 historical timepieces exhibited during the Odyssey of Pioneers are the evidence of TAG Heuer’s avant-gardism and legacy. One of the earliest innovations is the oscillating pinion, patented in 1887, still used in mechanical chronographs today and a feature of the new TAG Heuer Carrera 1887.
The exhibition also contains current collections and novelties like 2009’s Monaco V4, the first timepiece with a revolutionary belt-driven transmission. The new concept watch, the TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept, the first mechanical movement without a hairspring is displayed in the console of the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster, leading the way for the roadshow.

An electric super sports car with avant-garde design and timing technology takes to the road for an epic round-the-world adventure. The TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster epitomizes Tesla’s dedication to producing a clean sports vehicle that loses nothing in performance.
The unique collector’s car has a specially-designed interior by Tesla’s Franz von Holzhausen. It incorporates TAG Heuer avant-garde design elements like the Meridiist mobile phone and TAG Heuer Limited Edition 1/5th second stopwatch. The new technologically-advanced TAG Heuer Pendulum concept is fitted in the removable console. The exterior color scheme is Foucault Field Gray, embodying the innovative spirit of both companies. The design was inspired by the new TAG Heuer concept watch, a technical milestone in mechanical movements, which brings technologically advanced art to life through motion.
Tesla began developing an electric sports car in 2004, and is the only automaker selling highway capable electric cars. The Tesla Roadster accelerates faster than nearly any other supercar yet is twice as energy efficient as a Toyota Prius. Supercar performance with zero emissions and a carbon footprint lighter than any comparable sports car.
